Exploring the archipelago
From Cajou Lodge, the team organises trips to see the Orango hippos, discover Bubaque, Rubane and its fishing villages, Bolama the former capital, turtle nesting on Poilão and sport-fishing stays. Each programme depends on the season, the tides and sailing conditions.
Boat excursions with an experienced local guide start from €30 per person. The 6-day sport-fishing stay, with nights and full board included, costs €1,950 per person (minimum 2 people). For the Orango and Poilão parks, park fees are added.
The best season for the Poilão turtles runs from October to mid-February. The hippos of Orango National Park can be seen while the lodge is open, from October to the end of May. The parks are managed by IBAP, the institute for biodiversity and protected areas.
Yes: Air Bijagos offers scenic flights of 30 to 90 minutes, from €150 to €270 per person, subject to availability. They can complete your programme; practical information is on the Travel information page.
